Watts was born 28 September 1968. When her family moved to Australia, Watts
made her film debut in For Love Alone (1986). Later, she was a part of three
television series, Hey Dad.. (1990) and Brides of Christ(91), as well as Home
and Away (91) as well as Flirting (1991). After having moved to the United
States, Watts initially struggled as an actress, performing in small-scale
movies until she starred in David Lynch's psychological thriller Mulholland
Drive in 2001 as an aspiring actress. The role was the catalyst for her rise to
international fame. Watts played the role of a depressed journalist in The
Ring, a horror film that was remade. As a character in the film, she played
grieving mother in Alejandro film 21 Grams, she was nominated to win the
Academy Award for Best Actress. She continued to rise to popularity with
performances in I Heart Huckabees (2004) and King Kong (2005) as in Eastern
Promises (2007) and The International (2009). Watts was also nominated for the
Academy Award as Best Actress for her role in The Impossible (2012). In the
decade of 2010, she starred in such films as Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014),
While We're Young (2015), The Glass Castle (2017) as well as Luce (2019). Watts
also continued to play in blockbusters, with appearances in the Divergent
franchise (2015-2016).
